Fun with languages – sobremesa

Sunny greetings, dear reader!

The Spanish have the great word “sobremesa”. We all know the feeling when eating a good meal, and getting sleepy afterwards. As siesta is not always an option right after a meal, you can do “sobremesa”.

The literal translation is “over the table” (sobre la mesa), but the true meaning is staying at the table with the people you enjoyed your meal with, having some more drinks, and engaging in great conversations. This gives you a delightful alternative to a siesta. It is not just confined to lunch; a “sobremesa” can be done after any meal and usually starts right after dessert, or whatever you complete your meal with. Many have already fallen into the trap of enjoying “sobremesa” far too long and found themselves missing business meetings, or coming back home in the middle of the night. What are you waiting for? Go and grab a meal with friends and family!
